Have I Ever Told You I Have a Freakishly Long Torso?

I have a freakishly long torso. It's a fact and to prove this fact I have included as Exhibit A and Exhibit B pictures. This is me and my roommate Lisa. We are the same height as shown in Exhibit A. Exhibit B shows me and Lisa sitting against our kitchen wall. This freakishly long torso of mine has robbed me, at times, of comfort. I, for instance, cannot sit upright in the backseat of a Toyota Camera or Honda Accord. I have tried it is not comfortable. I also have to buy extra long shirts. I guess it is a curse that I must bear...

An Awesome Way to Start the Morning

Me and Lisa went on a bike ride on the Railtrail in Boulder City. It was 7 miles round trip and we started at Lake Mead and ended at the Hoover Dam. It was so beautiful to ride along the lake, through tunnels and end with a walk across the Hoover Dam. We plan on doing it every Saturday morning. Here's some pic, don't mind my double chin in the one where I'm in Nevada and Lisa is in Arizona.

Some Descriptions of Me....

When I was working in Quality Management at McKay Julie McIntire described me in a phrase...."you are a mass of contradictions." I thought it was a good description and didn't realize how true it was until tonight when a friend told me a girl in the ward called me "the most reverent irreverent person I've met." I am perfectly happy with those descriptions.

This Is So Me....(and the reason I didn't make it in nursing)

Joni and Weston Came To Visit

Ok so I was just a perk that came with their trip to Vegas. We had fun. I was able to spend Saturday with them. We went out to Hoover Dam, walked part of the rail trail around Lake Mead, and ate Indian food from India Palace. I had a great time and loved having them here. Their friends Ryan and Heidi Spendlove also came.

This Is One Of The Coolest Things I Own...

I love accessories: purses, jewelry, shoes.... and while I was home in October my Grandma Jean gave me this purse. Now this is no ordinary purse. My Great Aunt Annie made this purse probably 30 years ago. I'll have to get a better timeline from my Grandma. I'm guessing at least 30 years, because I believe Aunt Annie has been dead for 20. I love this purse.

This May Be Bad....

So I spent a day shadowing the coroner for Las Vegas (who is also my pathology professor). I had an AWESOME time!!! That's the part I think is bad....I had a good time at the coroner's ofifice. Who says that???

We started the day off at the office in the morning meeting. They go over all the bodies they received the night before and who's assigned to do the autopsy. Then we had to be at the court for Simms to testify in a serial murder trial. A guy killed 3 women before they caught him. I sat in the courtroom and heard opening arguments and then Simms testimony. They're high tech here in Vegas. He has a screen in front of him that he draws on like the sports broadcasters do. He points out findings on the pictures of the bodies to the jurors. It was so interesting.

After the courthouse we went back to the office to start our autopsy. We only had one we were assigned so I was a little disappointed, but I shouldn't have been. It was a good one to have. He was a 36 y/o male that didn't show up for work and was found dead in his apartment. He had blood coming from his mouth and nose and was found with darvocet around him. Before we did the autopsy we discussed possible differentials for the patient. Mainly GI problems like an ulcer, varices, Mallory-Weiss tear.... Then we started our external exam of the body. We found that he had a scratch/cut on his right arm, a bruise on his LLQ, and a cut on his right anterior superior thorax. We had the body x-rayed without significant findings. Then we opened him up. He had a HUGE hemothorax. We ladeled 1.5 LITERS of blood out of his pleural space and we found a wound in the lung that was 2 1/2 inches long. THE GUY WAS TOTALLY STABBED TO DEATH!!! And the scratch on his arm was probably a defensive wound. It was a cool case, totally unexpected.

I don't know if I could do forensic pathology as a career, but I want more exposure to it to decide. I'm going to try and do one of my 3rd year rotations in it. It was so cool.

I Love Sukkot Too!

For Sukkot I was able to go home for an entire week. I had so much fun. I was able to play with my niece Millie for 3 whole days I was home. We went to the library, the park, the duck pond, and the playland at McDonalds. Mom also planned a fun girls day for us which included lunch and pedicures. It was so cold though....it even snowed!

Here's a cute picture of us girls at lunch on our girls day out. Millie's face is so CUTE!!!

All of us girls got pedicures. It was my first pedicure and I loved it! I would love to make a habit of it.

Ok now the next picture may be a bit disturbing.....
I'm letting you know....it's not mine.

Here's the finished product....

Here's some more cute pics....
