1 Full Year!!!

Well I forgot about it, but July 29th was my 1 year anniversary of living in Henderson, Nevada. I can't believe it's been a year already. It went so fast!!! I've had a great time here and have met some great people. I'm excited to see what the next year has to offer.

Furniture Market July 2008

One of the great things about living in Vegas is that furniture market is twice a year and my parents come down for a few days. Mom, Dad, Jim, Margie, Ed and Deanna rolled into town on Sunday night and I had them all over for dinner. I went to Market with them Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday....I couldn't pass us getting some free lunch. It was actually fun to hang out with married people. It seems like I'm always around single people. Monday night the market had Rod Stewart playing so I joined the old people at the concert. I was actually surprised that I knew all the songs he sang...slightly embarrassing. I did have one experience that was new to me. I went to use the restroom and I shut the door and put my purse on the hook and got the toilet seat cover all arranged and even before I could get my pants undone someone came into the bathroom and was already peeing. I thought that must be the fastest pants getter downer I've ever met and I want to see the feet that title belongs to, well...I looked under the stall door and lo and behold the feet were facing the wall!!! I was so embarrassed for the poor man that was in the women's restroom. I saved him the embarrassment by staying in my stall until he was done washing his hands and had walked out. I did verify that the sign did say women's and the lack of urinals.

Camping at Mt. Charleston with the Girls

This weekend I spent some time camping with Lisa Magnusson, Annie Ellsworth, Ashlee Bergener, Carla Russell, Colleen Russell, and Kara Sparenborg. It was so great to get out of the Vegas heat.

I Must Have Aclimated...

Recently I've found that it's blasted hot and yet I still go outside and do things, for instance...last week I went to the drive-in and saw a movie the temperature outside was a cool 100 degrees. Tonight I went to a free movie and popcorn out on a grassy knoll on the banks of Lake Las Vegas. When I saw the temperature my car registered at 11:00 p.m. of 105 degrees I came to the realization...I must have aclimated. As strange as this sounds it doesn't feel too bad.

The Paint in my Room was Oppressing Me

So because I have so much time I decided I needed to repaint my room. I've included the before and after photos. As you can see in the before photo my room was hot pink and breastfed baby diarrhea gold/yellow/orange. It was hideous!!! I forgot to take a pic before hand, but they still had the paint here at the house for some reason. My friend Jen had just finished painting a new condo and gave me a gallon of her left over paint. The color doesn't show up well on the photos here, but it's a light minty green, it's pretty much the same color as this blog background. I think it looks great, because it matches my comforter. My room feels so much bigger and brighter! I am no longer oppressed by my room, I may even be able to study better in here.

I LOVE THE 4TH OF JULY!!!!!

HOLY MACKEREL!!!....(I mean trout)

Over the 4th of July weekend me, Dad, Joni, and Weston went fishing at Henry's Lake. We had a blast, but I think Weston had more fun than any of us. Check out the 5 lb. cutthroat he pulled out. (He thought he had a snag)We're comparing it to the regular 1 lb fish the rest of us caught.

Physician Shadowing

I completed my physician shadowing for the summer. I had to shadow 2 docs for a week each. The first doc I shadowed was a radiation oncologist. I LOVED IT!!! I really enjoyed seeing patients again. I liked going to the office each day and on Fridays we went to the operating room and put radioactive seeds in prostates. It was pretty cool. We worked with a urologist who seriously looked like a garden gnome. I wanted to put him in green pants with red suspenders and a red party hat with gold designs on it and put him in my front yard. One pet peeve I did pick up is that it's your prostate not your prostRate!!! I liked the doc I worked with and I think he liked me because he invited me back for an extra OR day and he told me I could do a 3rd or 4th year rotation with him. That's cool. I think rad-onc is something I could do.

The second doc was an orthopaedic surgeon. I HATED IT!!! I was really disappointed because I thought ortho was something I would enjoy. I just didn't like dealing with sprained ankles and problems that you really couldn't see. Alot of the cases were "elective" too, they weren't necessary. I guess I want my work to be necessary.
